Whether you plan to exercise to lose or maintain weight, improve health or physical fitness it's important to choose something you can do daily and or weekly.
The health, fitness and weight management advantages of exercise all depend on you being physically active regularly and for the long term. Don't be afraid to mix it up a bit, doing the same thing day in day out can get boring.

There are 4 basic categories of exercise... Endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility.

Most people tend to focus on one type of exercise and think thats enough. Each type is different and mixing it up a bit will give you more benefits and also reduce boredom plus cut your risk of injury.


Endurance activities increase your breathing and heart rate.

  • Brisk walking or jogging
  • Bike riding
  • Dancing
  • Field sports ie soccer, footy, hockey


Strength exercises make your muscles stronger.

  • Weight lifting
  • Martial arts 
  • Hiking
  • Rock climbing


Balance exercises help centre and strengthen your core.

  • Board sports eg. Surf, snow, skate
  • Gymnastics
  • Tai Chi
  • Skiing
  • Jumping rope (skipping)


Flexibility exercises stretch your muscles and can help your body stay limber.

  • Gymnastics
  • Yoga
  • Stretching
